Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, has called for ramping up assistance to the residents of the Gaza Strip affected by the ongoing Gaza crisis, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. This directive, issued through the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, aims to make humanitarian aid more accessible.

Various initiatives, including those led by Emirati organizations, will extend support. Essential items like Ramadan kits, necessities, and healthcare provisions are set to be distributed extensively, focusing on aiding the Palestinian population.

The UAE’s primary objective is to alleviate the living conditions of those impacted by the Gaza shortage, even if only by a small margin, as emphasized by Sheikh Thiyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council.

Since November 2023, significant aid efforts have been underway, with various organizations, such as the Emirates Red Crescent, Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, and Sayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, contributing. Over 212 flights and two cargo ships have been dispatched to deliver essential supplies.

The third consignment from the UAE to the Egyptian city of Arish, near the Gaza Strip, has commenced. Of the 922 trucks amassed, 521 have already reached the affected area.

International organizations, including the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), World Health Organization (WHO), and the Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction for UN Coordinator’s Office, have collaborated and provided 21,000 tons of food, health assistance, and reconstruction materials.

Over 24,000 volunteers have also participated in the UAE’s ‘For Gaza’ campaign.

By the end of February, the ‘Boards of Goodness’ initiative, spearheaded by the UAE, has facilitated the delivery of 293 tons of aid via Egyptian aircraft.

Furthermore, the UAE has established 200 clinics and field hospitals operated by over a hundred healthcare practitioners. As a result, 8,798 cases have been attended to in the hospitals. Moreover, a floating hospital near the Arish port caters to Palestinians’ medical needs, treating over a thousand patients.
